You will be responsible for sales, sales development, market development and marketing activities, with the goal to develop a profitable PLA business. As Emirates Biotech is a new company, you will also develop the processes and procedures to achieve the set and agreed goals.
Your main geographical focus will be the the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Qatar. You will be based in Dubai but will travel frequently as part of the job.
You must be self-motivated and capable of working on your own initiative whilst maintaining and promoting excellent relations with relevant stakeholders.
For the initial phase you will be located in the UAE and open to relocate to Saudi Arabia once Emirates Biotech opens a sales office in KSA.
Key Responsibilities
1. Sales: Interact closely with both existing and prospective customers for PLA bioplastics.
- This includes managing the relationships not only with converters but also with distributors and brand owners, adapting strategies based on the decision-makers within the value chain.
- An essential performance indicator will be the effective definition and execution of the annual sales budget, which includes establishing targets for customer acquisition, implementing competitive pricing strategies, setting volume objectives, and ensuring the maintenance of desired profit margins.
2. Business Development: Identify and pursue new business opportunities for PLA bioplastics.
- This involves prioritizing and advancing these opportunities through the application development process, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
- Collaborate closely with the Technical team and Product Manager to define product positioning, oversee product sampling, and gather valuable customer feedback on tested materials.
- It is essential to comprehend and communicate all customer requirements internally, including technical specifications, regulatory considerations, product compliance, and necessary documentation.
- The primary objective is to continuously fill the sales funnel with new opportunities and successfully guide them through to closure, tracking metrics such as the number of opportunities, volume of open and closed business, and monitoring progress within the sales funnel to drive growth and expansion in the market.
3. Market Intelligence: Collect and share market intelligence.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of the market size and value chain for traditional plastics, bioplastics in general, and specifically PLA (polylactic acid).
- Provide a concise market overview that delineates the landscape of plastics and bioplastics across different regions, market segments, and customer profiles.
4. Market Development: Support market development and support the marketing activities:
- Active participation at trade shows and conferences will be key to driving the adoption of PLA (polylactic acid).
- Engagement with various stakeholders throughout the value chain, including recyclers, composters, trade associations, and non-governmental organizations (NGOs), to promote the benefits and applications of PLA.
- Involvement at these events will facilitate valuable networking opportunities and meaningful contacts within the value chain, fostering collaborations and partnerships that contribute to the broader adoption and acceptance of PLA in the market.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Business Economics or MBA, preferably in combination with a technical degree.
- Minimum of ten years’ experience in plastics industry, preferably in sales and business development, with a proven track record of achieving ambitious targets.
- Technical background with familiarity of the plastics value chain; experience and a network in plastic packaging and/or food-service ware would be an advantage.
- Entrepreneurial and agile mindset with ability to work in a fast-growing company where priorities could shift and ‘the way we do things’ still needs to be developed.
- Team player that is equally comfortable being part of a team and defining the future direction of the team.
- Understanding and affinity with the Middle Eastern culture.
- English and Arab language skills.
- Passion for sustainability and making the planet a better place future generations.
